Have You Become the Hulk In Your Business?

The cover picture isn’t what you expected, is it? You’re probably thinking of the big green rage monster that smashes everything. Well if smashing everything means your competition then yes, “Hulk” out. However, what I’m referring to is something more internal.

Business setbacks

In dealing with some recent business setbacks and trying to strategize my way through them I remembered a quote I heard. It’s not new, but the premise is this. What it takes to get to your next revenue bracket will be different than what got you to your current bracket.

This was my realization. I had been doing the same things expecting a bigger outcome when I needed to change major things, things I wasn’t willing to do before. With those struggles you’re going to doubt yourself. Job openings start to look appealing and you’re going to start contemplating alternatives. That’s when I remembered Dr. Bruce Banner.

True passion and grit

He believed in his idea so much that he was willing to experiment on himself to prove it true. That’s true passion and grit. That’s what I had to remember. I believe deeply that entrepreneurship is the best pathway to accomplishing your life goals and achieving the things you desire for your family.

Business ownership gives you the greatest amount of control over your income. So then the question becomes if you truly believe this—what are you willing to do to prove it? Are you willing to put in all-nighters to get your campaigns out? Are you willing to go door-to-door, call old clients and think of other ideas to increase your revenue? Are you willing to take a deep dive and look at the things you were previously unwilling to consider as viable revenue generators? In other words, what are you willing to risk to see the rewards you’re so confident about?

Skin in the game

Mark Cuban calls this skin in the game. As a shark investor on Shark Tank he wasn’t willing to invest in anyone that wasn’t serious about getting their idea off the ground. Coming on the show wasn’t seriousness. Quitting your high paying job to build your dream was. Getting a second mortgage on your house was. Pouring hundreds of thousands of your retirement savings into the business was. If you haven’t gotten to this junction point in your business journey you will.

Going all in

It’ll be the point when you’re going to have to jump all in. It’ll be when you leave your job to pursue your venture full-time. You’ll get to that point again when you need to hire people. And again when you move from 5-figures to 6-figures to 7-figures and beyond. At each point you’re going to want to recoil and be safe and when you do I want you to remember Bruce Banner and “Hulk” out.

Do not give up

Many of us have set New Year’s goals for our businesses and history shows most resolutions lose steam by the end of the first month. I’m here to tell you not to give up. If you believe in your idea, how much it can help people and how it’ll change your life, then get your skin in the game. Turn the machine on yourself and become the Hulk. Until next time I wish you much success transforming your business into an amazing brand.
